Why Baking?

I have loved to be in the kitchen for the longest time. I have been cooking with my parents since I was a little girl. I would have flour up to my elbows while helping my mother bake cookies during the holiday's. I would curiously watch my dad whip up Beef Stroganof. In middle school, I even filmed an episode of my own cooking show, that didn't get far, I have hopes for the future on FoodNetwork or the Cooking Channel.

While I can't take credit for baking cupcakes all the rage, I like to think I began a love affair with cupcakes long before they became popular after all, it is my prefered baked good. I love how they are individual bites of happiness. I continue to practice and experiment. I try as much as possible to bake from scratch, but when life gets busy, I enjoy using a box mix and making it my own, whether I add a filling or just make the frosting extra special. Now that I have been baking for a couple years now on my own, I have come to the realization that I really don't like store bought icing. I always have to make my own, it just simply tastes better.

What will the future hold for my baking adventures? Right now, it isn't clear where it will take me. I am currently a sociology major with a minor in travel and tourism, which sounds really cool right? But it doesn't quite fit in with my one true love of food. My friends have told me that they would help endorse a bakery if I open one and eventually that is the plan, but right now it is strictly for fun. I need the practice anyway. I would like to make it to culinary school and specialize in cakes and pastries (if that is a possibility).

I have big dreams, but I haven't let go. I hope to bake the world a better place!
